Historical Commission Minutes April 2007
April 11, 2007
Meeting held at the Hopedale Community House.  Present:  Merrily Sparling, Chair, Daniel Malloy, Elaine Malloy Thomas McGovern, Frederick Oldfield III.

Minutes for March 12, 2007 meeting voted and accepted.

Update on The Little Red Shop:  We will now refer to the Little Red Shop as the Little Red Shop Museum.  First bid $396, 966, not including the bathroom, ramp, air conditioner, exterior painting, and site contractor. 
 Met with contractor and architect- contractor will go back and look at costs.  Take clapboards and prime the ones we have.

-Contractor stated that if project takes longer then estimated cost will be more.  Blackstone Valley Tech High School will do plumbing work.

Discussion on fundraisers. Sources for funds.

Merrily spoke to Senator Moore about extending the grant we have.  Mass. Historical Commission can't extend but Senator Moore will work with the Legislature.

The Capital Campaign continues.

Question arose as to why the other companies did not put in a bid.

Moving Looms- Merrily has been in touch with the person from the textile museum and moving the looms.  They are being stored at the Lake Street garages.  Hopedale Foundation  picked up cost of moving looms- $5000.00
-Asbestos will be moved shortly.

-Red Shop Planning Committee meeting should be held to decide what the Little Red Shop Museum will look like.  Need to expand this committee.

Grants- Other grants out there.  Preserve America Grant. Need to think about getting equipment training. Etc.

South Hopedale Historic District- nothing from Mass. Historical Commission yet.

Other business-
 CPA- have handouts to distribute at Town Meeting. Need to have public hearings and discussion should take place before 2008 Annual Meeting.

Cupola from Paul Curran- he has an offer. Dan will call Toby Booth- Boy Scouts- to see if it can get moved via an Eagle Scout project. Cost $1500.00

High School Cupola- Merrily will contact Rich Martin to see if the Board can meet to discuss.  Merrily will also speak to architect.  Dan will also include a piece on his website.

Elaine discussed Heritage Landscape.  Dan and Elaine took committee around to 5 landscapes around town- Parklands(park and bathhouse), library, Draper complex, railroad beds, and the Ledges.  Dan will put together a map for them.

Next meeting May 14, 2007 @ 6:30 at the Bancroft Memorial Library.
